getting noticed is hard specially when you really want to get noticed, just imagine the amount of attention that a sneeze from paris hilton attracts and compare that with the amount of spends made by small and medium businesses to advertise something worthwhile and supposedly useful to a person in need of the service.
http://www.mumbai.chowknews.com was started with this objective in mind, getting noticed in however small places still counts if the people noticing you act on what they have seen.
i have seen on the streets of mumbai handwritten notices advertising every thing from tiffen services to child care for working women , i wish all these people instead of or in addition to posting on street corners would post on the internet. in fact i was searching for a good raincoat dealer in ghatkopar but i did not come accross a single one in the web from mumbai most of them are from directory sites and are interested in “bulk” sales. wake up retailers the web is teeming with individuals who would love to hear about your products and services. so try to get your sevices on the net.
this could also be an opportunity for computer savvy people to help small businesses get on the web, example is a high school kid could go around and collect material for my website from a particular area and i would pay him for his services.
this helps me to build traffic to my site and i would be able to leverage that to get some financial benefits. i have been to dozens of industrial estates and have seen hundreds of ads for “helper wanted” “girls required for packing work” and other such labour intensive work.
i know that these people will not be surfing the web but just imagine a person who becomes a point of contact between the web and these people. such a person would be serving both the employees and the employers.
he would just need to concentrate on a certain area as obviously the workers will not be able to commute long distances. once he has established a line of contact he would just have to keep connecting the two ends of the market using his PC and the internet connection…
i have started a section at chowknews for just such an activity http://www.industrialjobs.chowknews.com this site will list jobs by industrial estates and allow employers to post their requirements into the site.
the potential employees could then just ask a friend to check out the vacancies in the nearby estates. This friend could also be someone who could go around creating awareness in the estate about the website.. and collect the ads.
