Motorcycling is an efficient way to commute but it is also dangerous, i travel by bike daily for about 30 km and i wish to share my learnings on safety in Riding a bike.
There are some dangers that are inherent to biking in any season or condition. you may fall from the bike for the following reasons, i have also listed suggestions to avoid the situation
1) Skidding: Oils spills are the worst nightmare of a biker, when you notice an oil spill do not brake / accelerate or turn the bike and try to ride it over chances are that you may be able to ride on. go some distance and stop. if possible you can stay and help others avoid the spill. if not then you can enlist the help of locals to warn other vehicles. pouring sand over the spill will help is soaking up the oil and making it less dangerous.
2) Crashing into a vehicle in front: this happens a lot to bikers since cars in front have a better braking then bikes, to avoid this keep a safe distance (never mind the honking)
if the car in front brakes suddenly the impulse is to apply your brakes too, try finding a path that is longer, you could overtake the car from the left or right. be carefull to avoid other vehicles coming from behind. left of the vehicle is usually a safe bet.
3) Pedestrians: if you see one waiting on the edge of the road slow down and anticipate that they will cross. i once ran into one that had a full burqa on in the night when there were no street lights. my bike skidded and i fell down then.
4) potholes: Avoid them if possible (again be carefull about vehicles behind you) if not then just stand on the footrest and ride out the pothole. Emergency braking will probably land you into more trouble.
Running out of time now will add later
